Tokyoaday

Tokyoaday is my daily Instagram blog from when I studied abroad in Japan—each post has three slides showing what I did that day, plus a Japanese word and a “bar of the day” (a favorite lyric). It was my way of capturing the little moments and sharing them with anyone who wanted to follow along.

DAY 127 - OKINAWA DAY 4
Slide 1: I participated in a nearly 5000 person game of Tug of War here in Okinawa. It was for a fertility festival (I think) and as a ritual, anyone who is present can participate. We were on the red team, and I must say, it was a great victory! Loved our technique of the 1,2,3 pull method.

DAY 127 - OKINAWA DAY 4

He was also fascinated with music which led him to create an entirely automated musical performance. We walked in just as it started which was awesome because a performance only happens for 3 minutes once an hour

Slide 2: Went to a Korean Izakaya in Naha last night. Obviously the aesthetic was unmatched (inside and out). Food was decent and when Alex and I got funky drinks the whole restaurant stopped so they could play us a an EDM song with a drop of “uh this is a fucking banger” (check BOTD for song title)

Slide 1: Made it to the SG Club, supposedly one of the best bars in Asia. Vibes were super 40s and the drinks were perfect

Slide 2: Other ppl like the Noah shirts too!

Slide 3: Also went to a music bar in Shibuya, and lemme tell ya, it was arguably better than SG Club. The music selection was immaculate and their food/drink was really tasty. Better ambiance for sure!

Slide 1: Saw an absolute master of his craft last night. Michelin bartender at Bar Centifolia. I got their salted caramel drink. Simply divine. Here’s the owner making Alex’s fire (pun intended) matcha drink

Slide 2: Here is previously mentioned salted caramel drink. Went here right before going to 1oak (literally the only club I have ever wanted to go to). Don’t have a lot of tokyoaday worthy content from 1oak cuz we weren’t there for so long but yeah, it was fun!

Slide 3: Last time playing basketball w @apes. Didn’t capture any ball content this time but here’s a selfie w my homie Yuzu who really improved her English this semester (the same cannot be said for my nihongo)

Hello Tokyoaday fam! I know it’s been a little while, but I genuinely have done very little that’s interesting all week. I’m in the midst of grinding for finals, and the bulk of my time has been spent studying. There’s not much that’s aesthetically appealing to me working on Japanese in my notebook. Promise that I will go balls to wall once I’m done with all my work for the semester ❤️ - @noahwein
